Dehradun a provisional capital of state Uttarakhand is in the foothills of Himalayan range in the North and Shivalik range in South.It is the gateway to the famous hill station  Mussoorie.Dehradun is basically located in the Doon valley and is believed to be one of the oldest cities of India.In ancient India during the Mahabharata epic era, Dronacharya lived here and that is why this place is also referred to as "Drona Nagri" or "Abode of Drona".

  Dehradun is a combination of two words "Dera" and "Dun" which means camp in the Valley which was founded by Guru Ram Rai in the early eighteenth century.Doon city is spread over an area of 300 square kilometers.The city has a pleasant climate throughout the year with mild summers ,cool winters and heavy monsoons.

  Dehradun is a part of Garhwal Region and is predominantly inhabited by Garhwali people. The city mainly portrays the pure influence of Garhwali tradition and customs. The languages spoken in Dehradun are Garhwali, Gorkhali, Kumaoni,, English and Hindi. There are people from differing religions and backgrounds residing here apart from Garhwali.

 Dehradun is a hub of education. The city is also known as “school capital of India” for its world class residential schools which attract students across the globe.It is also a home to many religious schools as well.
